Learn French through famous French Paintings

Language uses words as its means of expression. To learn French we are going to learn words to express ourselves in the French language. In this blog we will learn French through words related to the paintings of famous French artists.  Before we look at a particular piece, let’s learn French words connected to Art (l’Art).  The word peintre means painter who may choose to do des peintures à l’huile (oil paintings) which could also be expressed as huile sur toile (oil on canvas).  Then you may have an interest in des peintures de paysages (landscape paintings.)  If you are inspired to create a landscape painting, you would call it une peinture de paysage (singular version).

If you are someone who likes drawing, you may use what the French call un crayon (a pencil) and perhaps you will do un croquis (a sketch) or you may be so artistic that you will immediately create un dessin (a drawing).  Or you perhaps feeling  to pick up un pinceau (a paintbrush)?

Learn French with one of the most celebrated French artists – Claude Monet.

une personne (a person)  il y a quatre personnes (there are four people).

Il y a trois femmes et un bébé  (There are three women and a baby). 

Elles sont dans la salle à manger (They are in the dining room).

La mère parle à son enfant (The mother is talking to her child).

Il y a une table et des chaises (There is a table and some chairs).

Il y a de la nourriture sur la table  (There is (some) food on the table)

This work is certainly reminiscent of the late 19th century so it has been included here to keep a similar mood.

Il y a beaucoup de jolies fleurs roses et blanches (there are lots of pretty pink and white flowers)
